Having problems with your home toilet is never fun. Whether you have a toilet that won’t quit clogging or it runs constantly, you have one of the most common toilet issues.
1. Clogs
Clogging is hands down one of the most frustrating issues homeowners have to deal with when it comes to their toilets. You know that feeling when the bowl starts overflowing, and you’re left wondering what went wrong? This is usually caused by a clog in the waste pipe. While some clogs can be taken care of with plungers, there are times when these tricks just don’t do the job.
Clogs can be caused by all sorts of things – using too much toilet paper, flushing stuff that’s not meant to be flushed, or even the buildup of debris and minerals in the pipes over time. You can try to prevent clogs with regular maintenance, but let’s be honest, sometimes those stubborn blockages just won’t budge.
2. Running Toilet Tank
The second most common problem with toilets is that they constantly run. Not only is it downright annoying, but it also wastes a ton of water, resulting in higher water bills.
One of the usual suspects behind a running tank is a faulty flapper seal. You know, that little rubber valve responsible for controlling the water flow from the tank to the bowl. When it doesn’t seal properly, water keeps leaking into the bowl, causing the tank to refill endlessly.
Apart from a faulty flapper, other reasons for a running tank could include issues with the float or the fill valve. The float, usually a ball or cup-shaped device, monitors the water level in the tank. If it’s not functioning correctly, it may not signal the fill valve to stop the water flow at the appropriate level, leading to a continuous flow of water into the tank.
The fill valve, on the other hand, is responsible for refilling the tank after a flush. A malfunctioning fill valve may not shut off properly, causing water to continuously enter the tank.
